8 x 10 gelatin silver print from 8 x 10 glass plate negative photographed by James Burton in 1899. Image of 128' William Fife, Jr. designed, Thornycroft built cutter SHAMROCK (built 1899 in Millwall on Thames, England) and 287' Scott S.B. & Eng. steam yacht ERIN (built 1896) underway at the 1899 America's Cup challenge. Visible in image: port bow view of the cutter SHAMROCK on port broad reach under mainsail, staysail, jib and flying jib, the crew is on bowsprit, up mast and on deck performing various duties, to starboard is the steam yacht ERIN underway.
