The setting is New York harbor, where the Newly built Schooner Yacht America is racing a fast sloop, 'Maria', a worthy trial horse. In my painting, I endeavoured to express speed in depicting the clouds scurrying by. On the right of the picture, the round building is 'The Battery'. On the left is a typical side-wheeler paddle steamer.
