YACHT RACE ENDED IN ANOTHER FLUKE; Wind Died Out and Left Rivals Five Miles from the Finish Line. COLUMBIA 100 YARDS AHEAD

NEWPORT, R.I., Oct. 7. -- The third attempt to sail the opening race of the series for the America's Cup was made yesterday, and again there was a failure for want of wind. All kinds of experts came like young Lochinvar out of the West and prophesied gales, squalls, hurricanes, and divers winds of high and low degree for yesterday, but alas! the only things which really blew hard were the experts themselves.
