The celebrated J-Class sloop, designed by Nathanial Herreshoff, successfully defended the America's Cup in 1903. The largest single-masted vessel ever built, Reliance was capable of speeds reaching 17.5 knots on her maiden voyage, driven by her 17,733 square feet of sail. The model is constructed of solid basswood on the waterline lift method with individually laid deck planking and appropriate deck furniture. Model is highly detailed with brass and mahogany fittings, with raised gaff to show her topsail span. Mounted on a natural mahogany baseboard, glazed cover trimmed in brass.
