DESCRIPTION SITE :

8x10 gelatin silver print from 4x5 black and white negative photographed by Rosenfeld and Sons on August 5, 1937. Image of 135' Olin Stephens designed, Bath Iron Works built J class sloop RANGER (built 1937 in Bath, Me.) and 128.5' Camper & Nicholson J class sloop ENDEAVOUR II (built 1936 in Gosport, England) at start of last race of 1937 America's Cup. Visible in image: starboard beam view of ENDEAVOUR II (J/K6) and RANGER (J/5) on starboard close-hauled tacks under marconi rigged mainsails, staysails and jibs, at starting line, which ENDEAVOUR II has crossed too early, the starting buoy can be seen just over ENDEAVOUR II's stern, spectator fleet of steam yachts in background.
