DESCRIPTION SITE :

In the early 19th century, the most famous racing yacht of the time was 'Arrow'. Built by Inman of Limington in 1821 for Joseph Weld of Lulworth Castle, Dorset. At this time the Cutter was proving to be the predominant yacht for speed and Arrow was undoubtedly one of the best. In races against yachts of her size and tonnage she was inevitably the winner, and in 1826, she won the first Gold Cup at the annual regatta of the Royal Yacht Club, later to be known as the 'Royal Yacht Squadron'. She was one of the contenders for the 100 Guinea Cup against the schooner yacht 'America' around the Isle of Wight, but unfortunately, she ran aground.
