DESCRIPTION SITE :

Britannia was designed by George Watson of Glasgow and built in 1892 on the Clyde by D & W Henderson. Commissioned by The Prince of Wales, later to become King Edward VII, the yacht was one of the most successful Big Class yachts in history. Throughout her career she underwent many modifications to keep pace with the ever-changing racing rules, but her basic hull design kept her up with, and in front of, the leaders.
