This was the third match for the America’s Cup and the first of the Canadian challenges. It would be the last time schooners would be used to race for the America’s Cup.

In this picture, the schooner MADELEINE is seen leaving the Canadian, COUNTESS OF DUFFERIN, far behind. Off the stern of MADELEINE, the twenty five year old yacht AMERICA, who was an unofficial contender, is in the process of blanketing and passing the Canadian yacht.
