This painting 'Shamrock And Columbia Off New York - America's Cup' shows Shamrock and Columbia racing away from the light-vessel on a beat to windward. It is an original oil on canvas by Royal Society of Marine Artists Member Jenny Morgan.

The challenger Shamrock was the first of five yachts of the same name built to challenge for the America's Cup for Sir Thomas Lipton. She was designed by William Fife and built by Thorneycrofts. She sailed across to America on 3rd August 1899, but the actual races against the defender, Columbia, did not start until early October. Columbia had a renowned skipper in the shape of Charlie Barr, who lead the American yacht 10 minutes ahead when crossing the finishing line.

Original paintings cannot be purchased via the online shop. If you would like to purchase an original painting, reserve a painting, or for further information, please contact the gallery and we'll be happy to help.
