MAGIC v CAMBRIA: During the 1870 America's Cup challenge, Franklin Osgood's Magic, followed closely by Idler, enjoys a strong lead over England's James Ashbury and his Cambria at the Sandy Hook lightship. Magic was unusual in that at 84'LOA she was the smallest yacht in the New York Yacht Club fleet. Yet, her elapsed time set a new record for the inside course of the New York Yacht Club, reaching 12 knots.
