In August 1934, Frank Beken photographed an almost impossible image of 5 majestic J-class yachts, spinnakers aloft with a home made camera showing his true genius as a marine photographer! This iconic image shows (left to right) the Prince of Wales yacht Britannia, Astra, Shamrock V and Candida giving chase to Velsheda in the Solent of the Isle of Wight. This photograph captures the true majesty and power of these yachts and the epic battles they fought against one another for line honours in the 1930’s.

Limited edition, silver gelatin photograph, printed using the original 8” x 6” glass plate negative, with 3 x 3.5mm conservation mountboard and presented behind 99% UV, non-reflective glass. Edition number will be advised on purchase.
