The J-Class racing yacht RANGER was built at Bath Iron Works in 1937 for Harold S. Vanderbilt, to be used to defend the America's Cup that year. The RANGER was successful in defending the Cup.

She measured 128 gross tons, register length 109.1 feet, length over all 135 feet. Her designers were W. Starling Burgess and Olin J. Stephens of Sparkman & Stephens.

She was launched out of BIW's yacht construction building with her mast lying on her deck, as seen here. She was scrapped in 1941, because her steel and the 100 tons of lead in her keel were wanted for war purposes.
