The Bermuda rig —a sail plan requiring a triangular mainsail set from a tail must and considered more efficient to windward—first appears on a Cup defender with designer W. Starling Burgess’ sloop Enterprise. She was aiso the first defender to carry two centerboards. which improved her steering.
