"I’ve just completed my latest commission depicting the selection trials for the 1930 Americas Cup. This is the first of a new series of large paintings depicting the early history of the Americas Cup. This painting has been quite challenge and the main reason for my absence from social media for the past few months. It could be said I’ve actually painted it twice, see the second image for the initial idea. The first rendering of the painting just didn’t work for me as it failed to convey the splendour and motion of these iconic yachts. So after a lot of contemplation I decided to paint over many weeks of work it changing the light angle and sea. Sometimes you just have to go with the gut and I’m pleased I did as the final version I feel does full justice to scene.

The painting 40x60 inches depicts the new j class yachts Weetamoe, Enterprise, Whirlwind and Yankee off Block island."
