Endeavour and Rainbow Show Up Well in Cup Tryouts
Starting long after the American boats, T. 0. M. Sopwith sailed his America’s Cup challenger Endeavour over the race course, catching up with the American contenders, Rainbow and Weetamoe, so quickly that he had to haul in his jib to keep from passing Weetamoe.

HERE IS a shot of Endeavour sailing in the wake of her American rivals just before she started her spurt that drew her up front. Sopwith is seen at the wheel.

Rainbow and Weetamoe are shown going over the line at the start of the first of a series of races to decide which yacht will defend the America’s Cup. Rainbow, with Harold S. Vanderbilt at the helm, defeated Frederick Prince’s boat by 2 minutes, 34 seconds.
