Enterprise finishes a race near one of the tugs carrying photographers and reporters.
Harold Vanderbilt was as aggressive at the helm as he was courageous in supporting new technologies. In the days before low-stretch, high-strength sail fabrics, three small cotton jibs held their shape better than one or two big ones.
Vanderbilt would go on to use the first synthetic sail ever built in Ranger in 1937.
