DESCRIPTION SITE :

Shamrock V running fast before a freshening afternoon breeze and sparkling sea. The curling bow wave betrays her speed but the hull leaves a smooth wake. The sail combination set is ideal for the conditions, with the 'baby' jib topsail doing good work in the gap between the mast and the spinnaker head. The staysail is also filling but the jib inevitably lacks wind. The head of the spinnaker luff has caught over the topmast forestay, undoubtedly to the joy of the crew, as it is helping to keep the sail drawing to maximum effect, although the tack is still inside the forestay in accordance with the rules. She is going well for the next mark and the racing flag flies broadside with her speed.
The scene embodies the legendary beautiful summer days of large yacht races.
