DESCRIPTION SITE :

Carrying on our recent celebrations of the America’s Cup J class, here is a wonderful image of sailing and yacht racing on so many levels. Sir Thomas Sopwith at the helm of his J Class Endeavour with his wife Phyllis keeping a watching brief - and the stopwatch! Seems like they did, so called, inclusivity back then too! A pre start image with Phyliss on the timer and Sir Thomas , hands on the wheel, looking to bear away to kill a little time before the gun. This image is so familiar to all of us who have raced dinghies, keel boats, ocean racers, metre boats and maybe even foilers. Do they actually rely on stopwatches, I wonder?
