DESCRIPTION SITE :

This important presentation model bears an original ivorine plaque mounted bottom right and inscribed: 'Cutter Yacht/VALKYRIE/R.Y.S./1893'. Black and gold painted wooden hull with truncated maplewood mast and bow sprit, maplewood cap rail and clear finished decks. Mounted on mahogany wall panel with molded edge. This model was presented to VALKYRIE II'S racing skipper William Cranfield of Rowhedge. England. It is one of the only period America's Cup half-models known to be in private hands. The model is accompanied by a painting of VALKYRIE II racing the Herreshoff built NAVAHOE that is also dedicated to William Cranfield.
