A fine impression, with fresh colors, on cream wove paper, with margins (3/8 to 1 7/8 inches), in excellent condition. A work from La Grange’s celebrated series of woodcuts 'Drama and Color in the America's Cup Races'. 'Sappho' was one of two defender yachts at the second America's Cup challenge (1871), stepping in when defender 'Columbia' was damaged in the third race. 'Livonia' was a new yacht designed by Britisher William Townsend based on the lines of 'America' and brought to the race by James Lloyd Ashbury in his second failed attempt to take the Cup back to England.
