Document No 4857: Hand Colored Silver Bromide Photograph of "Columbia" by C. Bowles | |||||||||||||||
REF : 0 EDITION : 1901 DATE : COURSE : 0 DESCRIPTION SITE : Rare hand-colored silver bromide photograph depicting the yacht
'Columbia', the winner of the 1899 America's Cup. The image bears the
photographers blindstamp which states 'COPYRIGHT 1899 C.E. BOLLES, BROOKLYN
N.Y.' Columbia is beautifully framed within the image. The crew members are
scattered around the deck. The partially visible private signal flying from the
gaff looks like the Herreshoff manufacturing private signal. Given the size of
the image, it is very crisp and is a fine example of Bolles' work. This large
photograph is one of only two hand-colored images by Bolles. (PH-430)
