MOONBEAM IV - 1914

Category: OTHER CLASSIC YACHTS

MOONBEAM IVIt is MOONBEAM IV who has the honor to begin this series on Classic yachts.

Why she ? First because she is beautiful, then because I found the plans on a remarkable site : Classic Yacht Info. This site traces the history of the boat and brings us many technical characteristics.

Moonbeam IV is a William Fife III gaff cutter designed in 1914 and her construction was completed after WW1 in 1920. At 32 metres she is one of the largest Fife gaff cutters that still exists today and can be seen regularly racing in the Mediterranean classic regatta circuit.

After a legendary racing history against rivals such as ‘Britannia‘, Lulworth‘ and ‘Candida‘, Moonbeam IV turned to Mediterranean cruising. She was owned by HSH Prince Rainier de Monaco in 1950, hosting the young prince and Grace Kelly on their honeymoon.

X3D ANIMATION

MOONBEAM IVIt is this hull drawing not very readable that was used to model the hull.

Many improvements are planned.
Sails and rigging, inspired by Vanitie (1914) must be adapted.
Deck fittings, deck equipment and sheets are still to be modeled.
Finally, a customization is necessary: name of the boat on the transom, number in the mainsail, flags...
