MillerJVBorn in Hull in 1962, marine artist James Miller moved to Leeds in 1966. James always had a keen interest in art and in particular, marine drawing. After leaving University, he took up a career as an illustrator working on varied projects such as sailing manuals etc.

A hobby of sailing combined with drawing skills soon turned into a second career when he found that not only did his paintings sell, they were actually in demand. Over the past 20 years, James has received commissions from all over the world, and has exhibited in the UK and USA. He has always tried to achieve in his paintings a mix of fine detail with a painterly quality plus the excitement of a particular moment in a race.
