SchlechtRVRichard Schlecht discovered his love for art early in life, and has been fervently following his passion, particularly in watercolor, ever since. His work took a major leap in the 1980s when he took the first of many extended visits to Italy to paint the villas and countryside landscapes of Tuscany and Umbria.

In 1967, he began a thirty-year relationship as a freelance illustrator for National Geographic. He has also created work for Time-Life books, the ... Displaying 750 of 801 characters.

SchlechtR1I've been a free lance illustrator since 1970, specializing in editorial illustration–History, archaeology, anthropology, natural history and the like; clients have included the National Geographic Society, the United States Postal Service, the National Park Service, Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, the Yorktown Museum, the Allegheny Conference, and many others. My work has appeared in magazines, books exhibits and museums.

Of late, my work tends toward Civil War subjects, my specialty being pictorial aerial views of battlefields. And now, in 2013, the War of 1812. Recently completed a large mural for the Maryland State House in Annapolis for their 1812 exhibit, and illustrated a book for the the Maryland Historical Society, "In full Glory Reflected", both of which deal with Maryland's role in the war.
