1920 America's Cup defender

Resolute was designed by Nathanael Greene Herreshoff and built by the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company in 1914 for defend the Cup in 1914. She was christened by Grace Vanderbilt and launched on April 25, 1914. In the 1914 America's Cup defender selection trials, skippered by Charles Francis Adams III, she beat Vanitie and Defiance.

GLSchuylerV1George Lee Schuyler was the grandson of Gen. Philip John Schuyler of Revolutionary fame. He was born in Rhinebeck, June 9, 1811. He early settled in this city, and received his education at private schools and was a graduate of Columbia College. In the early part of Mr. Schuyler‘s business career he was one or the chief owners of the old steamboat line to New-Haven, and was also interested in the New-York, New-Haven and Hartford Railroad.

He studied fine art and illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Richard graduated in 1977, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

George OwenGeorge Owen was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1877. His mother died when he was young. After this loss, Owen was drawn closer to family in Rhode Island. The Owen family was active in yachting and commissioned boats from both Edward Burgess, and Herreshoff Manufacturing Company, Bristol, Rhode Island. In addition to many opportunities to race fast fine boats, Owen also began developing hobbies such as photography.
