Le 17 Avril, ou juste un mois après son lancement, le nouveau bateau a démâté dans une course avec Shamrock I à Weymouth Bay sur la côte sud de l'Angleterre. Il portait le grand flèche quand une rafale l'a frappé et le gréement est tombé sur le côté. Plusieurs membres de l'équipage ont été blessés et un homme passé par-dessus bord s'est noyé.
