Catégorie : PEINTRES

DaviesRVBorn in Stratford and brought up in Coventry, Roger Davies studied at Newport College of Art, Wales and the Royal College of Art, London. For the last twenty years Roger Davies has specialised in large-scale watercolours and oil paintings of maritime subjects, noted for their carefully researched detail and atmospheric quality.

DaviesR1Davies original oil painting, 'The Big Five' was commissioned by the owner of the world's largest gaff-rigged superyacht 'Lulworth'. The painting, which depicts five of the most famous racing yachts from the 1920s' which included Lulworth, hangs as a centrepiece in Lulworth's sumptuously appointed saloon. Roger Davies is a contemporary of other renowned marine artists such as Steven Dews and Stephen Renard.
The foundation of his very detailed work is undoubtedly his almost obsessive research. The atmospheric quality of his paintings probably derives from most of his career being spent as a watercolourist: "For a long time, I found I couldn't develop sharp and precise detail with thick, sticky oil paint, and so I preferred working in watercolours." However, he's now back working in oils. His classic yacht paintings in particular are almost exclusively in oils.

Roger Davies work is in private collections across Europe, Australia, Canada and USA. Roger Davies undertakes commissions.
