English and his wife Montie Arbogast English, the American marine painter John Arbogast English was known as "Jack" to his friends. He has a first-hand knowledge of his subject matter that becomes apparent upon viewing his highly detailed and meticulously rendered paintings of sailing craft.

EnglishJA1An active yachtsman who has owned and raced sailing craft of all sizes up to forty-five feet, English is also an avid student of maritime history. His early background as a sign painter, cartoonist, and draftsman has also had a profound influence on his works, which are accurately drawn and well composed.

English attended Trenton School of Industrial Art, and Trenton State College where he received his B.A.

The artist has exhibited widely, wining numerous awards including a gold medal for marine painting from the Franklin Mint Gallery of American Art, and a Second in Show from the Miami International Boat Show Exhibition.

Five of English’s works have been published, and he has reproduced several of his oil paintings in limited editions of full color lithographs, numbering and signing each one.

English belongs to the Ocean City Artists Guild, is a charter member of the American Society of Marine Artists, and is listed in Who’s Who in American Art.

John Arbogast English passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at Community Medical Center, Toms River.
