Son fils Edgar a continué à diriger l'entreprise jusqu'en 1946, date à laquelle il l'a vendue à M. Robert Wells d'East Cowes.

|
William Umpleby Kirk était un photographe pionnier. Il a pris l'une des premières photographies d'un navire en mouvement jamais prises en Grande-Bretagne à l'aide d'un obturateur continu. Il s'agissait de photos du yacht de la reine Victoria, l'Alberta, qui se dirigeait vers Cowes à une vitesse de 10 nœuds et qui lui a valu un mandat royal.
Il est né en 1843 à Hull. En 1881, la famille a déménagé sur l'île de Wight et vivait sur High Street, Cowes. Ses compétences photographiques et son entreprise se sont développées pendant deux générations avec lui-même et son fils Edgar obtenant le Patronage Royal.
