Le voyage a été fait via les Açores, et la flotte est arrivée au large de Sandy Hook en bonne forme après une traversée de 15 jours et 23 heures. Les coureurs se sont rendus immédiatement au bassin Érié pour regréer leurs espars et se remettre en configuration course. C'était la première fois qu'un challenger avait un «lièvre» à New York et il sera, bien sûr, d'une grande utilité pour régler le nouveau bateau au top de sa forme.
